Day 1: Globe to Peridot Mesa
Morning:
- Besh Ba Gowah Archaeological Park (Globe)
Start your day at Besh Ba Gowah, an ancient Salado pueblo. Explore the reconstructed ruins and the museum, which showcases artifacts like pottery, jewelry, and tools.
Tip: Enjoy a serene walk through the Ethnobotanical Garden featuring native plants used by the Salado people. - Head over to Miami, Arizona for a Tour of Bullion Plaza Museum. Bullion Plaza Museum has an amazing display about our native American history and area artifacts. It is great for kids.
Afternoon:
- Apache Gold Casino Resort (San Carlos)
Head east to the Apache Gold Casino, operated by the San Carlos Apache Tribe. Savor authentic Native American cuisine for lunch and learn about the Apache culture.
Late Afternoon:
- Peridot Mesa (San Carlos Apache Reservation)
Discover the scenic beauty of Peridot Mesa, known for its breathtaking wildflower displays (seasonal) and its significance to the Apache Tribe. If permitted, purchase local crafts or peridot gemstones.
Evening:
- Overnight in Globe
Stay at a local hotel in Globe. Enjoy a quiet evening reflecting on the day's exploration.
Day 2: Tonto National Monument and Roosevelt Lake
Morning:
- Tonto National Monument (Roosevelt Lake)
Drive northwest to visit the Tonto National Monument, home to ancient cliff dwellings of the Salado people. Take a guided or self-guided hike to the Lower Cliff Dwelling and admire the panoramic views of Roosevelt Lake.
Tip: Wear sturdy shoes and bring water for the hike.
Afternoon:
- Apache Trail Scenic Drive

- Discover Gila Ruins. Walk the ancient Gila Ruins. These ruins are a hilltop fortification near the town of Gisela, Arizona. Thought to be left behind by the ancient Salado People. The ruins are composed of a main circle surrounded by quite a few individual rooms.
Evening:
- Overnight in Tonto Basin or Young
Opt for accommodations in Young for a more secluded experience or Tonto Basin for convenience.
Day 3: Payson & Surroundings
Morning:
- Mazatzal Hotel and Casino (Payson)
The Mazatzal Hotel and Casino, located in Payson, Arizona, is owned and operated by the Tonto Apache Tribe.
