PLEASANT VALLEY DISTRICT - CAMPING

The Pleasant Valley Ranger District is located on all four sides of the town of Young, and it continues north to the Mogollon Rim and east to the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. The district consists of approximately 420,000 acres (approximately 170,000 hectares) of Chaparral, Pinyon-Juniper, as well as significant areas of scattered Ponderosa Pine-Juniper types of vegetation. Recreationalist enjoy the hiking trails, fishing opportunities, and horseback riding. Pleasant Valley is popular because of its proximity to Young, and its easy access of a quick summer get away.

CAMPGROUND CAMPING

Airplane Flat Campground

Airplane Flat campground is made of dispersed units and set in an open stand of mature Ponderosa pine.

Alderwood Campground

Alderwood Campground is on Haigler Creek. The water-chiseled canyon is popular for trout fishing and swimming.

Colcord Ridge Campground

With ponderosa pine, white and Douglas fir, Colcord Ridge is a great place to go during the hot summer months.

Haigler Creek

2 day-use sites and 2 campground areas with 14 overnight sites. Fishing for rainbow trout is a popular.

Rose Creek

0ffers rare glimpses into the habitats of Arizona’s diverse animal life and into the Native American past.

Upper Canyon Creek

The campground of dispersed units is set in a mature stand of Ponderosa pine with a mix of white and Douglas fir.

Valentine Ridge

Situated near Canyon Creek, known for its rainbow trout fishing. A 9-mile all-terrain bicycle loop trail starts here.

Colcord Ridge Campground

Ponderosa pine, white and Douglas fir, Colcord Ridge is a great place to go during the hot summer months.

Sawmill Flats Campground

The view is breathtaking and the lack of popularity makes it a nice get-a-way weekend stop.

The campground of dispersed units is set in a mature stand of Ponderosa pine with a mix of white and Douglas fir.
